Girls Trip to Vegas

Last weekend I went to Vegas with 2 dear (and new) friends. Liz & Vanessa are moms that I met through preschool and we were having a glass of wine one night and said "hey - we should do a girls trip..." You know how those things go - nobody ever pulls the trigger to plan it. Well, they called me 2 weeks ago to ask how the dates worked for me and before I knew it, the entire trip was booked! I am so glad we did it because we had the BEST time! I was slightly hesitant about traveling with 2 new friends. Not because they're not fabulous, but you know how you can't travel with everyone. We got along famously and are in serious withdrawls that we're not together 24/7. How lucky I am!!

Saturday we spent the day by the pool which was a slice of heaven. That night we ate one of the best meals I've ever had at Koi which is at the Planet Hollywood Hotel. On the way out we managed to score a ride in the PH private Escalade and our driver was a driver to the stars. No taxi lines for us :) We had the driver take us to Tryst where Vanessa had us hooked up with a private table and bottle service. I don't know if I'll be able to do Vegas without this kind of service again :) Private table, great music, private bouncer, Dom, Ketel One...what's not to love?

Sunday we spent the morning at the spa (most amazing I've ever seen!), more pool time and shopping. Best day ever :) That night we went to dinner at Dos Caminos and then we were so tired and had an early wake up call coming for Monday morning. We thought maybe we'd just go back to the hotel to rent a movie. We stopped at at the tables at Wynn for a few last minute blackjack hands and before you knew it, we were all up money and having the best time. So we stumbled off to bed only because the alarm was set for so early. 3.5 hours of sleep later, we boarded our plane to head home to reality.

I am so thankful to have 2 such fabulous women in my life and think it's amazing that we hit it off so well given the fact that we met through our kids. It's an annual trip for sure! I didn't have my camera very much and we have no pics of the last day. Oh well.

Potty Talk

Finally! Maggie is finally potty training. I can't tell you how relieved I am because I was sure they were going to have to change the story about how "no kid ever goes to kindergarten in diapers..." She was showing absolutely zero interest so I just left it alone. But Tuesday night, she sat down on the potty (the only time she does and it's only because she's trying to stall her bath) and she went! I knew that as soon as she actually went on the potty, we'd be that much closer. She just had to have the feeling of doing it once so she knew what I was talking about.

Yesterday was Day 2 and she did awesome! I was cautiously optimistic that it wasn't a fluke. She went on the potty all day except for one time in her pull-up. Pretty great percentage if you ask me!

Today was a bit more hit & miss. She seems to be rather freaked out of going on "real" potties and she wasn't cooperative at Miss Wendy's for school. But she did hold it until after we went out to dinner. The whole way home she was yelling at me to hurry up and I couldn't figure out what her deal was (have I mentioned that she has soooo hit her "2's"?!) and when we walked in the door she went running for the potty and actually went. It'd been 4 hours and her pull-up was dry. You go girl :)

I just hope she keeps it up. Ragen was a dream potty-trainee and he never had a single accident. I never had to say "do you have to go potty" to him and he just went by himself. So I don't know how long this stage lasts but I do know that I hope it's over soon! Interestingly enough, Mags managed to wait to do this until Jeremy was out of town for a long golf weekend. I'm thinking he bribed her?!?!

Date night

Tonight I had a hot date! Ragen & I had a special dinner at Red Robin and then went to Pilgrim for Art Night with Mom at preschool. After our dinner and a trip to the candy store, we made our way to the art night which was set up like a gallery full of artwork done by all the pre-K kids. When I say full, I mean each kid had about 4 pieces so really the entire thing went really fast. But it was still fun to see the kids so proud of their masterpieces. They had sparkling cider and treats to make the night extra special. I love having the chance to spend 1-on-1 time with my kids because we seem to get so busy with everyday life, that we don't get enough quality time.

Mommy & her good lookin' date :)

Ragen's robot on display. Note the sign says "Happy Teachers"? That's because Monday we brought in treats for all the teachers at school for Teacher Appreciation Week and he was so proud.

Ragen's masterpiece is the one right above his head.

Vacation

It always takes me awhile to re-enter life after a trip to Palm Desert. I even do laundry down there so that I don't have it hanging over me upon returning. But still, even with clean clothes, things just seem to sit in piles that continue to grow. Nothing is put away, pictures aren't uploaded, the house needs a thorough cleaning...instead I just watch it accumulate and get overwhelmed. This time seems to be worse because I'm heading back out of town for a girl's trip this weekend so I want to make sure everything is organized for Jeremy while he's the single parent.

Despite the list of things to do, we had an amazing trip to Palm Desert. We arrived on a sunny Tuesday morning and our first stop with Nana & Bumpa was of course In & Out Burger. We quickly turned around and left the next morning for Disneyland.

The kids were such troopers and had a blast at the Happiest Place on Earth. I loved watching it through their eyes. The first day we didn't arrive at the park until around 11am - it was a mob scene. Did I mention we were there during Spring Break. Probably won't be doing that again! We were so lucky to have Nana & Bumpa there with us to help split up duties taking one kid here and one kid there and also having line standers :) That was Hank's job and he's so good at it! Ragen wanted to try everything and he was really brave. He desperately wanted to go on Indiana Jones but wasn't tall enough which was so sad because Indy is his obsession right now. He loved the Big Thunder Rail Road but wasn't a fan of the Matterhorn. Although the next morning he said he wanted to try it again but we never did because the lines were insane. Maggie was happy to go on every ride she was tall enough for. We were worried last summer because she wouldn't try ANY rides but luckily she finally changed her mind. Her favorite was "pink Dumbo" which she rode several times. Ragen also loved the Star Tours ride as well as the Jedi Training Academy show where they pull people from the audience. He didn't want to get picked until he was 6, he told us. We went on the Finding Nemo ride which was new since the last time we were there. Luckily we stumbled upon a relatively short line for this ride so we jumped at it. It was a great ride that the kids loved. I had a heavy heart most of the ride as they were playing the music from the ending credits of the movie as you boarded and waited to start. This was the music that was so appropriate and touching at Ben Towne's memorial service.

Ragen loved being pushed around in the stroller - he apparently has it figured out. Why walk when you can ride? He even napped in it. However Maggie (the intended stroller user) never wanted to sit in it which meant alot of carrying just to keep things moving. By the time we made it back to the hotel around 8pm, she was konked out on my shoulder. Jeremy and I were so dog-tired by the time we got up the next morning to do it all again!

Day 2 found us at the Minnie & Friends Breakfast inside the park. We loved it! We'd done Goofy's Kitchen before but definitely prefered Minnie's. It was funny, Maggie let Minnie walk right up and hug her and we did the whole picture thing. From then on, no character could even stand near her, let alone take a pic with her. We had visits from Minnie, Chip & Dale, Tigger, Eeyore, Cinderella's Fairy Godmother, Max (Goofy's son), the Genie, Captain Hook, and Rafiki from the Lion King (unfortunately we never got our pictures with him). We managed to fit in the rides in Fantasyland that we hadn't had time for on day 1 nice and early. Then we ventured over to California Adventure which was a first for us all. They had some fun rides for the kids and the Toy Story Mania ride was totally worth the wait. However, the rest of it was really geared more at adults and by this time, Jeremy's parents had left so we had nobody to stay with the kids while we did big kid rides. Ragen & I did manage to go on Soarin' Over California which was pretty amazing. We'll have to go back there another time when the kids are a bit older and we have more time. Luckily by the end of the day, Maggie had decided she wanted to visit with Tigger & Pooh and we barely made it before they left for the night.

Once we were back in the desert, we managed to fit in tons of pool time and lots of golf. Both kids loved going across the street to hit balls during the day and also going out on the "real life golf court" (as Ragen called it) after dinner. Ragen was doing an incredible job swimming by the time we left and Maggie was swimming all the way to the deep end in her Aerial ring all by herself.

Easter found us waking up in the morning to see what the Easter Bunny had brought. Fun baskets for both the kids awaited. Then we went to the Palm Valley Clubhouse for an egg hunt and both kids had a blast. Maggie's age group had their eggs just laying all over the grass. She was the first one off the line and took off across the tennis courts to grab her eggs. Ragen's group had them a little more hidden. They had golden eggs which were filled with special prizes and he managed to grab 2 of them. Looking back I probably should have made him put one back for someone else to enjoy. Oops! After brunch with Nana & Bumpa, we went over to visit the Collins family for swimming. Chad & Ronni are the kids' godparents and we loved seeing Bailey & Carter. All 4 kids are getting so big!

We also fit in some pool time with the Garrett family and the Lentz family which was great fun. Lots of kid craziness but they all loved it. For our one parents-night-out, we had dinner with Chad and Ronni at Armando's which was a treat! Everytime we're together, we settle in just like it was old times when we lived 2 doors away at our condos.
Mark & Melissa visited a few days before we headed home. They brought Melissa's kids, Tiana & Elijah for us to meet so we had a full house but lots of fun. The big kids played in the pool for a long time and Ragen tried hard to keep up. He was having a blast monopolizing Uncle Mark's time. We were lucky to spend some time with them as they had just taken the red-eye home from 2 weeks in Hawaii and they were so tired!

It was a very busy trip this year and we had a few days of iffy weather which made it seem to fly by so much faster. We are so thankful to Nana & Bumpa for being such amazing gracious hosts when we invade their space! The kids loved every minute of being spoiled in California and so did we. :)

FINALLY!

Two days ago we woke up with an inch of snow. Today the sun FINALLY came out and it has changed everyone's attitude! It's a gorgeous 75 degrees today and the kids have been outside constantly. We all have! We were able to get a few things done in the yard before we head out of town which was nice. Still no weeding, much to Jeremy's dismay. Well, I didn't want to ruin my new mani! :)

Washing the cars is a much wetter process when this little guy helps. But much more fun too!

Husky fans

Yesterday was the first weekend day of practice over at Husky Stadium. It was going to be a nice day and we wanted to get the kids outside. So we told Ragen & Maggie we'd be going to watch the Huskies practice football and they were both so excited. We teach them young around here. I went to get Maggie dressed and she was yelling at me something about Huskies and pointing to a corner in her closet. I finally realized she was saying "Husky yute" which is Husky suit and I saw her Halloween costume in the corner...her Husky cheerleader costume. We decked the kids out in purple and headed to the stadium. They had a lot of fun running around on the track and watching the guys hit each other.

It was fun to be there. There was alot of optimism in the new coach and the new regime. We'll definitely be going to the spring game in a couple of weeks and hopefully it's nice that weekend too!

Whirligig

Growing up we went to Whirligig at the Seattle Center often. I have been hearing about Whirligig for years. The funny thing is that other than being held inside the Seattle Center House, I don't remember a thing about it.

This morning my mom and I took the kids to Whirligig along with half of Seattle. The main floor of the Center House (where the food court is) was filled with bouncy houses and lots of crazy preschool aged kids. I know there weren't bouncy houses when I was little so I really have no clue what it was all about back then. But, Ragen & Maggie had a blast experiencing all the different bouncies. Ragen was so good about waiting to help his sister to make sure she didn't get stuck in any of the harder parts. There was also face painting, live music, a clown and of course all the junk food in the food court.
.
If you're looking for a rainy-day activity, Whirligig might be a fun thing to try. Thursdays are actually free but be forwarned, I'd bet it's super crowded that day. It runs until April 12th. tp://www.seattlecenter.com/programs/detail.asp?EV_EventNum=23

It's SNOW joke!

Happy April fool's day! I chuckled to myself today as I was thinking that we're probably not too many years away from Ragen putting saran wrap on the toilet seat. The only thing resembling an April fool's joke around here today was the SNOW this morning. I'm so over it. Good thing we leave in 6 days for Palm Desert!

A comedy of errors

If you know me well, you know that I am always early. If I'm on-time, I'm late and that stresses me out like crazy. Well, I've fallen behind by about 5 minutes since kids so that usually puts me somewhere between 7 to 2 minutes early instead of the customary 10+. Anyways, you can imagine my HORROR when I was 30 minutes late yesterday. SERIOUSLY!

The kids were starting swim lessons at the Bellevue Club yesterday. All day I'd planned to leave around 4pm for lessons which would give me 30 minutes to get there and get the kids ready. 4pm...4pm...4pm. Well, dummy! No wonder 4pm sounded so familiar...that's what time the lessons STARTED! As I was putting the kids shoes on at 4pm, the lightbulb went on and I panicked! We raced to the club and I had to find someone to help me figure it out. I was hoping there was someway the kids could participate in a later class that day because they were so excited to swim. Thankfully they fit them both in at 4:30 and I could breathe a little easier. Although, I was bummed because I was meeting my friend Liz for a glass of wine while the kids had their lessons...4pm is the new 5pm, right?! Next time for sure!

So, we're off to a shakey start to say the least. Ragen was a rock-star at his class. What a little fishy! Poor Maggie was just out of sorts. It was a new pool that she'd never been in and it was pretty crazy in there with lessons going on all over the place. The teacher dunked her when she wasn't ready and it was all over from there. She cried the entire time. Bless her heart she sat right on the stair the whole time but crying (in between turns).

After lessons, we went to the locker room for showers. We have a pretty fluid routine down from all the swimming we do in the summer at the Tennis Club. So I just figured things would flow the same way. WRONG! I don't know why but it was a disaster. Maggie was still freaking out over every little thing and getting them showered, dry, dressed, and hair dried without getting soaked was impossible. I was sweating by this point!

We made our way to the front door and Maggie was still wimpering. I got this idea to buy them ice cream (for all that "great" behavior, right?!). Yes, it was 5:20 and we hadn't had dinner yet but I just wanted it to be a fun experience so that when we go back for lessons, Maggie will hopefully remember it wasn't that bad.

So, we go back tomorrow for more lessons. I'm hoping for a smoother afternoon and that my kids walk right by the ice cream on the way out the door. Not likely...

Oh, and I plan to leave at 3:30pm which should help!

Ragen "the fish" Kiefer

At this point Mags was still excited about her new "babing yute"

I stupidly bought them a small frozen yogurt each because the kids size was 25 cents more - next time I'll eat the 50 cents because these were at least twice as big as the kids size
