Fairy Godmother

We were so excited to meet up with the kids' Fairy Godmother this morning for a quick breakfast at My Coffeehouse in Madison Park. Ronni was in town for a big Theta reunion but we had the chance to quickly catch up and the kids were very excited to see her! It means a lot to me that she loves my kids so much :)

Because it was such a gorgeous fall morning, we headed to the "new" Madison Park to play. About 1/3 of Seattle had the same idea because it was packed. We ran into tons of people we knew from college (lots of Thetas too!) and the kids had a blast.

Thanks for meeting us, Auntie Roons!

A walk down memory lane

Apparently, when your 33rd birthday is just a few days away, your mom decides to go through your old bedroom at home and finally box up all your old memories. Or at least that's what my mom did. She sent over a couple of boxes and bags filled with memorabilia. It was really fun to go through it all. There was the bag full of pom-poms, one of my Cabbage Patch kids - the Olympic gymnast with blond hair & blue eyes, of course (which Maggie hasn't let go of since seeing it), my Indian Princesses vest with all the beads & patches my mom so lovingly sewed on there, old picture frames, my diplomas, and a box full of cheerleading uniforms. I already had alot of my highschool stuff but obviously this had all been left behind. Wouldn't it be nice to fit back into that cheer skirt again...

Tips & Tricks?

Hi interpeeps! I need some help...does anyone have suggestions on how to make shopping thru Amazon Fresh an easier experience? I sat down to do it today for the first time and it took over an hour. I finally gave up. I thought maybe my friends in blog world would have some tips! Thanks :)

The Godfather

We were lucky to be able to go out to a kid-friendly dinner at the Spaghetti Factory with the kids' Godfather last night. Chad was in town for an oral surgery conference so the kids & I went downtown to meet Jeremy & Chad. He was such a trooper going to the Spaghetti Factory when here he was...in Seattle with no kids or wife and he could go to some fancy schmancy dinner but instead he wanted to spend time with his godchildren. The kids were so glad to have him here and even little Maggie was trying to show off for Uncle Nuk. Thanks, Chad, for being so wonderful with the kids and taking time out of your busy trip to see us. We wish Ronni, Bailey & Carter could have joined us!

9/11

I'll never hear the date September 11th without having the same reaction everytime...instantally remembering where I were when I heard the news. It's such a somber day yet this picture also brings a smile to my face each year on this date. On the 1st anniversary of 9/11, Jeremy and I were in Venice, Italy. I was very emotional on that day as we walked around and I stopped in my tracks when I saw this touching tribute on the canal...the American flag at half-staff on the gondola. I will never forget.

Skipping school

Is it still considered skipping school when it's only preschool? Today Ragen played hooky and we went to the Puyallup Fair with my mom & dad. We had such a fun time! We got there early in order to meet the Backyardigans but Ragen decided to play coy and Maggie flat out refused. So after 40 minutes in line, we walked away with no pics of Pablo & Tyrone. Things quickly turned around after lunch though. Ragen did as many rides as time allowed and had a blast. Maggie started off with her usual "car" on the carousel ("no neighs"). But, after watching a boat ride for awhile, she decided to try it out. From there, she was hooked! She wanted to go on every ride in the vicinity! I'm just so glad she finally tried it and enjoyed herself. A big thank you to Mimi & Bumpa!! Hopefully Ragen will grasp the concept of how skipping school was a very special occasion and it's not to be done regularly.

Really tough loss

We woke up this morning with such high hopes - it was the first Husky home game! Always an exciting time in our house. The kids came with us to the game and then Mimi picked them up a little into the 2nd quarter so we could enjoy the rest of the game. Thank you Mimi!! I won't go on and on about what an AWFUL call the ref made to end the game instead of letting the players duke it out in overtime. Who knows, BYU may very well have won in OT but it would have been nice to see the effort. Instead, "the call" was made, the kick was blocked and the poor Huskies lost a heartbreaker.

Despite all this, the kids had a great time at the game. Ragen was actually interested in the players and the rules which was a kick for Jeremy. Maggie just liked the snacking at the tailgate. We successfully kept them out of the purple jello shots, thank goodness!

GO HUSKIES!

His turn

Now it was Ragen's turn. Today was his first day of school - pre K! Here he is showing off his lunchbox & show and share bag. During the summer camp program, he was in his new classroom with his new teacher so there weren't too many surprises for him today. It was sort of back to what is comfortable and familiar. For all of us :) It's hard to believe how big he's getting. He's so witty and smart and makes us laugh all the time. I can't imagine him starting kindergarten next year. I guess I'll stay in the present and enjoy this time.

I must say, as I drove away from school (I had already taken Maggie to her school - another successful drop-off!), the feeling was much, much different. I felt like I was forgetting something. It was even different from the feeling when I'm out & about but the kids are home with a babysitter. This time it was just me in the car going through the same routine...just one person instead of two. I'm so looking forward to these "me days" no matter how strange it feels at first!

1st day jitters

Today was momentous for us - Maggie's first day of school. OK, so it's more like glorified daycare but we call it school and it's the best I can do for a 2 year old. Mags started at Miss Wendy's today where Ragen went when he was 2. She runs a great program for 6 kids out of her house.

The first day jitters were all mine. I was nervous for weeks as I've got myself quite the little mama's girl. I just knew she'd be hysterical and then I'd go out and cry in my car. We've been talking about school alot trying to prep her and get her to understand that Maggie's school is different than Ragen's school. This morning we got her ladybug backpack all ready to go and she seemed OK. So, I dropped her off and there was nothing but a smile & a kiss!!! Maggie looked at me, smiled, kissed me goodbye and went on her merry way. I couldn't believe it! At pick-up Miss Wendy said she never got sad and had a great day. Then Maggie hugged her goodbye.

While a part of me is sad that my baby is starting the long journey that is school, I'm just so relieved that she wasn't sad today. My heart is happy!

Goin' to the Lodge...the Great Wolf Lodge...

Have you heard that super annoying jingle on the TV commercial? Well, we went to Great Wolf Lodge this weekend and that song is playing all over the place. However, I'm not going to hold that against them - we had the best time!

Jeremy's parents were generous enough to take us to the Lodge for a night and to say we are water-logged is an understatement. It was pretty packed given that it was Labor Day weekend but that's one nice thing about the place. They've done a great job of adding all kinds of different activities so it really never felt overwhelmingly crowded. My mom & dad were able to join us today during the day on guest passes so that was fun to have more eyes watching the kids. My dad even rode the slides which was hilarious to me!

First we checked in and luckily our room was ready early (and they gave us a complimentary upgrade which was great). We quickly changed and hit the waterpark! I was happy to see rows & rows of life jackets - that took some of the pressure off. There's a wave pool which Maggie loved and a kiddie area with all kinds of squirters and buckets dumping, and things to sit on, and 2 mini waterslides. Then there's also a tree house sort of thing where a GIANT bucket of water drops about every 5 minutes. At the top of this there are 2 pretty good sized waterslides. Ragen rode them both by himself and loved it. I can't forget the slide where we cheated the system - there's a part where you climb 6 stories and there are 2 inner tube rides. If you climb a bit higher, there's the "Howlin' Tornado"...more on that later. So the reason we had to cheat the system is that Ragen is only 42 inches in his shoes. It took me a minute to figure out why he could go on rides last week at the fair where you had to be 42" but not here. After climbing all the way up with an excited little boy, we were denied the inner tube ride. But, the 2nd day we outsmarted them. Ragen wore his crocs and what do you know...he was 42". He loved the tube rides and we did them over & over. One area we didn't spend much time in was this pool that had climbing things and several basketball hoops. Our kids just didn't care. They loved the hot tub though because it's half inside and half outside. Big hit! So, the tornado ride - it's this inner tube ride where you go into a pitch dark funnel that's about 6 stories high. (No, the kids didn't join us on this one) Jeremy hopped on the tube and I got on next. For a split second I was a little concerned that I was facing backwards but figured it'd spin. Well, it didn't! I went flying down several stories in the dark backwards literally nearly falling off. After the drop, it spits you into the giant funnel where you swing around side to side. It was so fun and I had never done anything like it.

Some other highlights of the Lodge were the magic wands where you go all over the hotel waving your wand and playing an interactive game. The kids loved the storytime at night in their PJ's. The food was actually pretty decent so that was an added bonus. We spent a good chunk of time in the arcade that is lit with black lights so Ragen loved to glow. There's a teen club/center but we obviously weren't in there. I was sorry that we didn't have more time to do some of the arts & crafts but we'll save that for our next visit.

All in all, it was a busy 28 hours but our kids loved every minute of it. We'll definitely be going back. Maybe an annual back-to-school event?!?! Thank you so much Hank & Cheryl!

(Author's Note: the quality of the photos is horrible but the lighting was really funky all over the lodge)
